'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' [Movie Recommendation]

Film Review & Recommendation: ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ by Darren Grant

Written by: Bolu Ariyo, Sociology & Criminology Student

The Diary of a Mad Black Woman is a great touching film that has both the genre of love and comedy. Being a black female has showed me how powerless women can be in comparison to men. This is because of how women are seen as caretakers while men are seen as providers, making them the ideal owners of every belonging. However, the film shows us how through different characters of the male sex, women experience love in different ways. What is good about the film is that it is based on reality, where a male who works for money without giving attention to his wife will not understand how to love, but a male who gives time for his wife will have a well functioned household. Certain aspects of the movie such as having a gangster grandma allowed me as a viewer to experience different emotions, which I believe is very vital in film making as it draws the audience in.
